14-inch MacBook Pro with M6: Everything You Need to Know
14-inch MacBook Pro with M6: Everything You Need to Know
Published 28 October 2026
Apple has just announced the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M6 chip, and the pitch is simple: more speed, much stronger on-device AI, faster wireless, and the longest battery life ever in a Mac, all at a starting price Apple is calling a better value. Here is a clear breakdown of what's new, who it's for, and what it costs in India.
The M6 chip: more cores, more AI muscle
The headline change is the silicon. M6 steps up to a 12-core CPU, two more cores than the chip it replaces, and Apple says it includes the fastest CPU core in the world. The GPU also gains two cores, for 12 in total, and every GPU core now carries its own Neural Accelerator.
According to Apple, the practical gains over the M5 model look like this:
- Graphics performance is up to 30 percent faster.
- On-device AI workloads, such as LLM prompt processing, are up to 25 percent faster.
- The Dual 16-core Neural Engine is up to 1.9x faster, helping with image generation, Super Resolution and AI upscaling.
- Ray tracing, now in its third generation, and Dynamic Caching help with 3D work, photo editing and gaming.
If you are coming from an older machine, the numbers get bigger. Compared with the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M1, Apple claims up to 13x faster LLM prompt processing, up to 11.7x faster Blender ray-tracing renders, up to 3.3x faster image processing in Affinity, and up to 2.5x faster Xcode project builds. Compared with the M5 model, those same tasks are roughly 1.2x to 1.3x faster.
One caveat worth keeping in mind: these are Apple's own benchmark results, run in September and October 2026, so independent reviews will give a more complete picture once units reach reviewers.
Memory and storage
The base model starts with 16GB of unified memory and can be configured up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB/s, which matters for large projects, heavy multitasking and running AI models locally. Apple also highlights faster storage for handling big files and exporting projects.
Battery life: up to 24 hours
Apple rates the new MacBook Pro at up to 24 hours of battery life, the longest of any Mac so far. For people upgrading from an Intel-based Mac, that is up to 14 extra hours, and for M1 owners, up to four more. Apple says performance stays the same whether you are plugged in or on battery.
Fast charging is supported too: with a compatible higher-wattage USB-C adapter, such as the 96W Power Adapter, the battery can reach up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
Display, camera and sound
The features that made this laptop popular carry over:
- Liquid Retina XDR display with up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, plus an optional nano-texture finish that cuts glare and reflections in bright rooms.
- 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View for video calls.
- Studio-quality three-mic array and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio.
Connectivity and ports
M6 brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for faster, lower-latency wireless, and the laptop supports up to two external displays. The port selection stays generous: three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack. For photographers and video editors, the built-in card slot and HDMI still save a lot of dongle trouble.
Users upgrading from Intel or M1 models also get an extra Thunderbolt port and the space black finish, which uses an anodisation seal to reduce fingerprints.
macOS 27 and Siri AI
The laptop ships with macOS 27, which introduces Siri AI, a far more conversational and personal assistant. Apple says it can use your personal context across messages, emails and photos, answer general questions, and take actions across apps. It is built into Spotlight and context menus, supports Visual Intelligence through a keyboard shortcut, and can help you write and edit almost anywhere you type.
Apple Intelligence also touches everyday apps. Safari can group tabs by topic and alert you to restocks or price drops. Shortcuts lets you build automations just by describing them. Photos gets smarter editing tools. There is also a new Liquid Glass slider in Settings, so you can choose anything from ultraclear to fully tinted.
Two fine-print points are worth knowing. Siri AI is launching in beta, and Apple notes that some features that rely on server-side models have daily usage limits, with expanded access planned for a fee in the future.
Who is it for?
Apple positions this model at college students, business professionals and multidisciplinary creators. In practice:
- Students and professionals get long battery life, a great display and enough memory for everyday multitasking.
- Creators benefit from the faster GPU, the XDR display and the nano-texture option.
- Developers get quicker Xcode builds and the ability to run LLMs locally with privacy intact.
- Upgraders from M1 or Intel Macs see the biggest jump in speed, battery and connectivity.
If you already own an M5 MacBook Pro, the gains are real but incremental, so the upgrade case is much weaker.
Environmental details
Apple says the laptop contains 45 percent recycled material overall, including a 100 percent recycled aluminium enclosure, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery and, for the first time, 100 percent recycled tantalum in several capacitors. Manufacturing uses 60 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain, and the packaging is fibre-based and recyclable. This supports Apple's goal of being carbon neutral across its footprint by 2030.

Final thoughts
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 is a solid, focused update. The chip brings meaningful gains in graphics and AI, the battery claim is a headline feature for anyone who works away from a socket, and Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 future-proof the connectivity. It is a particularly strong buy for M1 and Intel owners who have been waiting for a reason to move. If you are on an M5 machine, you can likely wait.
As always, treat the performance numbers as vendor claims until independent tests arrive, and check the configure-to-order options on Apple's India site before you decide how much memory and storage you need.
